Some Cub Scout trips are here too, but it’s all educational (links to sites are within the “reviews”:

Long Distance (within NC)

Longer Distance (outside NC)

Campgrounds (mainly with Scouts, but useful here)

  • Adventure Bound Campground, Kitty Hawk – open and wooded areas, small bath house, loud peafowl. Hostel next to group camping. Won’t come here again.
  • Lake Powhatan Recreation Area, Pisgah National Forest in Asheville – camped here in the fall and it was nice (except cold).  The bath house was newly renovated and nicely heated.  It’s also right next to the NC Arboretum, which is a nice place to visit.
  • Carolina Beach State Park – won’t go there again (no private showers, not very clean bath house, sites are first come first served).
  • Cherokee (Flaming Arrow Campground)
  • Falls Lake, Rolling View
  • Falls Lake, B.W. Wells – group tent camping, bath houses not great, but sites are good for groups.
